On January 31, 1944, soldiers took a great risk to explore the Green Islands, deep in Japanese-held territory. This mission was necessary for the strategic plan at the start of the year. 

Before the clock struck midnight on January 30, the ships appeared off the Green Islands. Soldiers poured into landing crafts, undeterred despite the wild waters. Brave American and New Zealand combatants defeated the Japanese forces. While the conflict continued on to new lands, the Green Islands returned to its peaceful state.
